A good cause and pizza party sounds like great ideas :)

Tracking the clicks/posts will be kind of difficult at the moment, considering that usually there is relatively heavy traffic every time we make a post, irrespective of the content which dies down in a day or two, but its something to keep in mind if we become famous :)

Mardav's comment : ..... why not have some Google Ads on the blog while we’re at it…I know they clutter the place and I hate them too but as they say its not wrong to make some hay while we have a little sunshine :)

Reply to Mardav : That was the initial plan, to make 'chai-garam' self sustaining, and hopefully reap some benefits for everyone (those with active participation - atleast >1 post at the moment). It is still something that should be implemented in the future if we have enough material i.e. posts/day.

Briefly we had an amazon referral program activated, it links to products based on the words used in posts... like if I have a title of a book in my post and it matches amazon book list it is hyperlinked by amazon plugin and if someone buys the book following that link we get a cut!

Reason why I removed that and don't have google adsense.
We have 5800+ pageviews (2200+ unique pageviews) since April 2007, with google adsense, we would have got less than a dollar, we didn't (imo still don't) have enough content to keep the reader on the page.

If we get down to having anything >/=1 post/day it will help. Everytime we post, popular blog search engines/rss feeders (like technorati, bloglines) are pinged and users know that there has been an activity on the blog and we get more hits.

I agree with what you said about the hosting costs and such...and rather than defining *active authors* you could track which post(s) generate more revenue and distribute that between authors or use it for Chai Garam events...say a pizza party...or better still give it up for a good cause.

Obviously, I do not think we could generate more than $50 a year (although I'd like to eat my own words on that).
